Your ring might have its own schedule to visit a gemologist or a jewelry shop where a cleaning expert is waiting for it. That’s good since your ring needs that regular yearly “check-up”.
Maintaining your ring won’t only be done by these cleaning experts, you are the major contributor in keeping it clean and shiny.
A woman should know how to clean her ring herself. Jewelry maintenance is easy as long as you know exactly what you’re doing.
So do a little research on what kind of care your ring needs. Then start with the cleaning process and be sure to keep up with the schedule of cleaning it.
There are several kinds of cleaning methods that you can use depending on the kind of metal, setting, and gem that you have.
Before we get into the cleaning process, let’s talk about the durability of Diamonds, Sapphires, and the different kinds of precious metals used in rings.

❤💍 “Thank you Rene and team for your beautiful work. She said yes! The ring is stunning and my fiancé and I are over the moon. You have been so helpful in answering all of my questions over the past few months, always responding very quickly. You guys went above and beyond. The ring size I gave you was a little too big so we took it to some jewellers near us to resize it and they all remarked that the ring was very beautifully and very well made. Thank you so much Rene!”

Durability

As we all know Diamonds are the hardest precious stone, and Sapphire is the next with a score of 9 in the Moh’s scale of hardness.
Only a Diamond can scratch a Sapphire, but Sapphires cannot scratch Diamonds.

Gold

Pure gold is a soft precious metal, it is softer than pure silver. This means that it can incur scratches. And pure gold won’t last its shine.
That’s why jewelers mostly used gold that is alloyed to increase its durability and shine.
But it doesn’t mean that it is totally safe from scratches, it can incur scratches depending on how you use it. But when polished again it would look like it’s a shiny brand new gold ring.

Silver

Pure Silver of Fine Silver on the other hand is also a soft precious metal. It is malleable and easily damaged.
So it is common to combine it with other metals to increase its durability just like gold.
The most common example is Sterling Silver which is composed of 92.5% Silver and 7.5 % Copper.

Platinum

Platinum in its pure state is soft, so jewelers use platinum that is alloyed to increase it durability.
But when compared to Gold, Platinum is much stronger and durable.
The setting and prongs of a Platinum ring holding stones is less likely to break compared to Gold rings.

Remember your warranty and maintenance appointments.

Do not neglect the free check-up and maintenance appointments for your ring.
Experts can determine if your ring needs some repair to prevent any Diamonds or Sapphires from falling.
They are also the ones who could repair the scratches from the metal of your ring.

How to keep it clean and shiny on a daily basis

Avoid using thick lotions and creams

The residue of these products can build up on your ring and would result in making your ring look and feel dirty.
It can also cause discoloration in the long run especially if your ring is made of white gold or platinum.

Avoid using your ring while cooking

Actually, don’t use it while cooking. Take it off!
Food and oil is the last thing that you want to be stuck in your ring. And it would be hard to remove these if it gets into the tiny holes underneath your gems.

Store jewelries in individual cotton pouches

To avoid scratching your gems, give them their own pouch or if not their own pouch, their own space far from the other gems that can scratch them.
Now that we’re done considering the durability and the do’s and dont’s when wearing our precious rings.
